Which animals are furs made of?

For thousands of years, animal skins have protected against cold and allowed them to safely survive even the coldest winters. Over time, selected species began to be bred and the fur industry slowly developed. Currently, it has changed its face a bit, but sheepskin coats, jackets and other outerwear are still very popular. Which animals are used to make natural fur, considered a manifestation of elegance and timeless style? Check!

Fox fur - a classic that never goes out of style

For years, elegant silver fox fur coats, which are considered to be one of the most noble on the market, have been very popular. These animals have silver-blue fur with a white tip on the tail and a black head with a slightly brightening silver (the so-called mask).

In the wild, they are found on the Labrador Peninsula and Pennsylvania. However, they intersect with red foxes, so fur coats are sewn from animals bred on special farms. Manufacturers of outerwear use natural and dyed leather. They are very popular, among others black fox fur coats that look beautiful with many different accessories.

Blue fox fur coats are also popular in the furrier industry. It is one of the polar varieties that live in the wild in the frosty polar regions. Currently, however, hides from farmed animals are used. Their characteristic feature is a long (up to 6 cm) dark gray hair with delicate blue highlights. Outerwear of this type looks very impressive, and at the same time provides excellent protection even against the most severe frosts.

Finn Raccoon fur

Small raccoon are predatory mammals belonging to the Canidae family. Their homeland is the north-eastern regions of Asia (in nature, they initially appeared in China, Vietnam, Japan and Korea). In the 1930s, Soviet hunters brought them to Europe - they very quickly settled in the territory of the then USSR, and then got to other countries. Most probably they came to Poland in 1955. Currently, they are found practically throughout our country.

The regulations in force allow them to be harvested all year round (there is no protection period), therefore the skins of these animals are much cheaper than those from other species. Whole livestock farms are also set up abroad. Raccoon fur is thick and its coat is very fluffy and decorative, so they are often used as decorative elements. They are sewn mainly to collars, hoods and leather handbags.

Other fur animals

Many smaller mammals are also used for sewing and decorating coats, jackets and other leather goods. Rabbit fur is very popular in Poland. These animals are easy to breed, and numerous breeds allow you to obtain raw materials that differ in hair length and shades. Their reasonable price is also their advantage.

Another popular animal is farmed American mink (the European variety is protected). Their skins have a short coat (up to 20 mm) which consists of two layers. Mink coats are quite expensive, but elegant and very warm.

Summary

For sewing fur and other clothing, the following are also used, inter alia, common cowards, chinchillas, muskrats, raccoons and caracals. The raw material obtained from fur animals is subjected to an advanced conservation process. The first step is to clean the remains of fat and meat, then dry, rub and salt it.
